Museum Podcasts

Okay. So, you’ve decided that you’re just hopelessly museum obsessed. In whatever context that obsession resides (studying, working, visiting, etc.) museums are likely such a part of your life that you’ve wanted to integrate them into your daily podcast routine. Well, you open your chosen podcast app, type in “museums” and get a PLETHORA of results. To help you narrow them down, I’ve compiled a few of my favorite “museum” podcasts (in no particular order), about the field of museums in all its beauty and complexity!

Museums in Strange Places – A great binge listen, each new episode delights, entertains, and makes me deeply ponder the deeper societal meaning of museums. The (Pop-Up) Anti-Trump Museum of Atlantic City is one of my favorite episodes.

Museopunks – Produced by the American Alliance of Museums, you’ll stay on top of all the museum news and trends and it addresses all sorts of relevant and pressing issues “for the Progressive Museum.”

The Museum Life – With over seemingly hundreds of episodes in the archives, don’t let the lack of recent episodes turn you away. You’ll find something in here (by some of the biggest museum names) that will help with your dissertation or MA application. Trust me.

People. Change. Museums. – Proud University of Leicester Museum Studies moment! A six-episode project, People. Change. Museums. “explores the complex relationship between museum and technology in this time of intersecting crises.” Very. Relevant.

Museum Archipelago – these super short episodes are exactly what you need to remind you of the intersectionality of society and museums. The broad reach (both physically and topically) will not disappoint.

Sidedoor – Special shout-out to my favorite museum-produced podcast (the black sheep of this list). Produced by the Smithsonian Institute, the host Lizzie Peabody enthusiastically delves into the vaults to report on the objects, research, and people that make up the Smithsonian. I get a little giddy with each episode.

Well, there you have it! I hope you’ve found a few new things to listen to! Comment your favorite museum-related podcast shows or episodes!

Cause, let’s be real. Who doesn’t need more podcasts to listen to?
