MAGS is back, with a new committee! We have a lot of plans for the 2025-2026 academic year, and we cannot wait to get this publication up and running, sharing things like local stories, students' work, research and current perspectives in the arts and heritage sectors.

This year's MA Museum Studies cohort are a lively mix of students from a wide range of different walks of life. Our MAGS committee reflects our many different cultural, academic and professional backgrounds. Though we are united by our shared passion for museums and galleries, we all have our own skills, experiences and ambitions to bring to the Society!

Without further ado, let's introduce ourselves... (Part 1 of 3)

Ana - President

What's your special interest in museums and galleries?

  • Public engagement, learning programs and institutional collaborations.

What are you most looking forward to about your time at Museum Studies Leicester?

  • I am looking forward to meeting people with different ideas, and soaking in the international view about museums, galleries and international heritage institutions!

Katy - Vice-President & Digital Tech Officer

What's your favourite museum?

  • Museum of Classical Archaeology in Cambridge - I once got to be a model for ancient Roman hairstyles!

What inspires you to work in the heritage sector?

  • I am inspired by my desire to increase accessibility and inclusion within museums and cultural spaces. Museums should be for everyone, and I want to make sure that is the case as much as possible.

What are you most looking forward to about your time at Museum Studies Leicester?

  • I am looking forward to doing my placement later in the year, but also the opportunity to learn from people with different backgrounds and the space to delve into current museum research/theory.

What's something you have learned during your professional career?

  • I used to work at a Botanic Garden, which had helped me think about living collections and what counts as a museum. I think it opens up a lot of ideas to not just think about museums as physical buildings, but what museums could be beyond that.

Jami - Vice-President & Events Coordinator

What's your favourite museum?

  • One of my favourite museums is the Berlin Jewish Museum. Both the exhibits and architecture are phenomenal. It’s such a beautiful space with interactive elements to engage the audience.

What are you most looking forward to about your time at Museum Studies Leicester?

  • I am really looking forward to meeting new people from all over the world! I am mainly interested in the politics and ethics behind colonial collections and how we can develop the museum into a more inclusive space.

What's something you would like to achieve on the MAGS committee?

  • I want to put on some fun events where students can relax from their stressful studies and let out some energy (maybe in a game of laser tag)!

Eli - Secretary

What's your favourite museum?

  • The Pinacoteca de São Paulo, in Brazil.

What inspires you to work in museums?

  • I believe museums an incredible place to live and tell stories that are far away from us — past and future. Museums are agents of change in its core, opening safe spaces to understand humanity in all its various ways of being.

What are you most looking forward to about your time at Museum Studies Leicester and in MAGS?

  • I look forward to understanding different perspectives around the world, mainly national differences that transform the ways we view the world. I’m also excited to see a number of museums that I could never see, and to share a bit of my knowledge into MAGS and the course itself.

Mon - Treasurer
